Faculty Member, Department of Social Issues
About
I am a researcher affiliated with the Department of Social Issues at the Institute of Economics and Industrial Engineering (Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Science). I also work as a labour migration consultant for the Central Eurasia Project, Open Society Institute (New York).
I hold a PhD in Russian and East European Studies from the University of Birmingham, UK and a Russian kandidat degree in Sociology from Novosibirsk State University of Economics and Management.
My area of expertise includes a wide range of issues linked with the process of shaping the transnational migration regime emerging between Russia and other former-Soviet republics, as well as issues linked with the migration of students and highly qualified specialists which takes place between Russia and the rest of the world. I am interested in exploring how institutions and transnational networks influence the experiences of people on the move. I also have a strong interest in the processes through which “other(s)” is(are) constructed in societies, as well as in experiences of being the “other.”
